Filtration in antarctic ascidians – striking a balance *
Retention efficiencies and pumping rates of the four Antarctic ascidian species Ascidia challengeri, Cnemidocarpa verrucosa, Corella eumyota and Molgula pedunculata from Potter Cove, King George Island, were measured. None of the species reached a 100% retention efficiency at any given particle size. Pumping rates of the four species range between 250 and 349 ml /h per gram of ash free dry mass...

This concern also applies to filter components and housings. Pall recognizes the importance of proper material selection, cleanliness standards, housing surface preparation, and specialized manufacturing processes with regard to product quality. Our knowledge allowed us to introduce practices that have become industry standards. All Pall Gaskleen filter assemblies are packaged in special double...

متن کاملSome Aspects of Flocculant Use in Clarification and Filtration
Clarification and filtration characteristics of some South African raw juice samples were examined in relation to flocculant usage. The influence of flocculant degree of hydrolysis on the efficiency of these processes is described. The zeta potential of the juice particles was found to modify the choice of flocculant for optimum settling and filtration.
متن کاملFertilization and sperm chemotaxis in ascidians.
Prior to fertilization, spermatozoa of many animals and plants show chemotactic behavior toward eggs. Chemotactic behavior was first described in ferns (1), and their attractant was identified as the bimalate ion (2). In animals, sperm chemotaxis to the egg was first observed in the hydrozoan Spirocodon saltatrix (3) and is now widely recognized in all species from cnidarians to human (for revi...
